Our Story

Design workspace and planning

How It All Started

Back in 2009, our founder noticed something peculiar. Homeowners consistently expressed frustration with renovation projects—not because the work was poor, but because the final result didn't match how they actually lived in their homes.

Beautiful kitchens that lacked functional storage. Bathrooms designed for aesthetics rather than daily routine. Living spaces that looked magazine-ready but felt impractical.

That observation sparked a different approach: start with behavior, then build beauty around it.

Our Philosophy

Function First

Before we select a single tile or paint color, we study how you move through your space. Where do you set things down when you enter? Which cabinets do you open most frequently? These patterns inform every design decision.

Honest Communication

If something won't work, we tell you—even if it means talking you out of an idea you're excited about. Our reputation depends on creating spaces you'll love five years from now, not just on installation day.

Sustainable Choices

We source materials from suppliers we've worked with for years, prioritizing durability over trends. The most sustainable renovation is one that doesn't need redoing in a decade.

The Team Behind the Work

Our crew includes carpenters who learned their trade through traditional apprenticeships, designers who've worked on everything from compact flats to period homes, and project managers who treat your renovation like it's happening in their own house.

What they share: an obsessive attention to the details most people won't notice until something goes wrong. The way a drawer closes. How light falls across a countertop. Whether a door swing makes sense for the room layout.

We don't employ subcontractors for core work. Everyone on your project is someone we've worked alongside for years.

What Guides Our Decisions

Every project presents moments where we need to choose between what looks impressive and what works better. We consistently choose function. Not because aesthetics don't matter—they absolutely do—but because beautiful design that frustrates daily use isn't actually beautiful.

This means we'll sometimes suggest simpler solutions that cost less but serve you better. It means we'll challenge design ideas that don't align with how you've told us you live. It means we prioritize getting it right over getting it done quickly.

The homes we're proudest of aren't necessarily the ones that photograph best. They're the ones where clients tell us, months later, that they're still discovering small touches that make their daily routine easier.

Our Process

Initial Consultation

We visit your home, ask detailed questions about your routines, and identify friction points you may have stopped noticing. This session typically runs 90 minutes.

Design Development

Based on our consultation, we create proposals that address both your stated needs and the behavioral patterns we observed. Includes mood boards and material samples.

Refinement Phase

We present the design, walk through our reasoning, and incorporate your feedback. Most clients go through two to three refinement rounds before we finalize plans.

Execution

Our team handles the build with regular check-ins to ensure the work matches the approved design. We maintain detailed schedules and communicate any necessary adjustments immediately.
